A prospective student’s guide to experiencing Emory like a local
student on-campus

Whether you’re considering one college or 10, application season can be an overwhelming process — which means the universities at the top of your list can start to resemble one amalgamous academic soup.

You may have a weekend — or less — to explore Emory’s campus and determine whether it’s your best holistic fit. Read on for some tips on how to get a sense of what Emory’s campus community has to offer and how to make the most of your visit.

Discover campus

Dive into student and campus life offerings, learn more about opportunities within your school or subject of interest and experience the personality of Emory.

  • Take a guided or self-guided tour: Get a feel for the size of campus and the distances between residence halls, classrooms and other locations important to you as a student.
  • Dine at Emory: What better way to get the true experience than dining among the locals? Emory has several cafés, coffee shops and food trucks on campus, and is expanding dining options.
  • Explore the location: Emory’s campus uniquely sits within a wooded area while being nestled in a truly urban landscape. Enjoy the natural environment and local wildlife by visiting Lullwater Preserve, the Tunnel, the Quad and the Emory Healthcare walking areas.
  • Connect with your prospective school: Emory is made up of four undergraduate and five graduate colleges, with programs ranging from business to nursing to theology. Visit the schools’ individual websites to learn more about what they have to offer, their faculty and the important work you could shape as a student.
  • Scope out events: Emory encourages students to immerse themselves in activities that fit their interests, creating community through shared experiences. Why not join in? Check out what events may be happening on campus while you visit, and attend some if you can.
  • Investigate opportunities at The Hatchery: The Hatchery, Emory’s Center for Innovation, supports student innovators from all Emory schools, providing guidance from inspiration to realization of the vision. Discover what you can achieve with Emory’s community support by visiting the center while on campus.

Discover Atlanta

Emory’s student experience would be incomplete without Atlanta. The city is rich in diversity, arts, culture and entertainment — not to mention the many opportunities it provides for students to positively impact the wider community.

  • Check out the city: The greater Atlanta area boasts amazing neighborhoods such as downtown Decatur, Midtown and Little Five Points — not to mention Atlanta’s famous BeltLine, a 22 mile loop of multi-use trail along a formal railway corridor, perfect for stopping along for outdoor activity, restaurants and local parks.
  • Be a tourist: Check out the culture and history that Atlanta has to offer as a home to numerous national museums and historic sites, including the High Museum of Art, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and the Trap Music Museum, just to name a few.
  • Assess the shuttle routes: An urban campus is only as good as its transportation routes! Connecting on-campus students to spots like Decatur and Midtown, taking the shuttle offers an easy way to explore the city without stressing about traffic.
  • Dine in the city: Explore Atlanta for the international culinary destination that it is. Venture into neighborhoods where the locals eat.
  • Get out of town: Atlanta may be one of the top-ranked cities in the United States, according to the Economist, but that doesn’t mean the state itself has anything less to offer. With beautiful mountains, ocean views and the world’s busiest airport at your fingertips, there’s no shortage of things to explore throughout Georgia.
