Schedule Builder will be available beginning Monday, Sept. 25, for Emory students to use during pre-registration for spring 2024 courses. The tool integrates with OPUS and allows students to build a schedule that accommodates their needs inside and out of the classroom.

Because the registration process can be daunting — especially when students are balancing classes with work, internships and other activities — Emory’s Office of the University Registrar continues to find ways to improve the process.

With that goal in mind, the registrar’s office will launch Schedule Builder in fall 2023, an easy-to-access, simple-to-use class registration tool that provides students and academic advisors with an intuitive interface to build an ideal class schedule in real time.

Schedule Builder is the newest addition to the suite of tools students already use when registering for classes. Schedule Builder incorporates seamlessly into the existing registration platforms, including Course Atlas and PeopleSoft (OPUS).

Students can use Schedule Builder to create multiple prospective schedules for the upcoming semester based on their time constraints, degree-seeking goals, and other parameters. They can view the schedules side-by-side, then narrow their options to build an ideal schedule based on their unique needs and existing obligations in and outside of the classroom.

“We are thrilled to introduce Schedule Builder to our students right before spring 2024 preregistration begins in early October,” says JoAnn McKenzie, associate vice provost and university registrar. “While PeopleSoft continues to serve us well as the basis of student enrollment, the user experience it provides for our students needs to align with the modern sophistication that our students have come to expect. Students will have an easier and more intuitive way to build multiple schedules at once and in real-time using the Schedule Builder tool.”

In addition to improving current class registration, Schedule Builder can help improve student experiences in the future. The reporting module within the platform will allow campus administrators to access data to better understand when students would like courses offered and where the current offerings do not meet student expectations or demands.

That knowledge will help the University Registrar continue to find ways to better serve students and empower them for success through Schedule Builder and other user-friendly technology solutions.

Schedule Builder will be available in opus.emory.edu beginning Monday, Sept. 25, and for students’ use during preregistration for spring 2024 classes.
