Emory News Center, magazine, marketing campaign earn national awards

Communications, marketing and design achievements have earned national honors for Emory University communicators, with recognitions from both the Interactive Media Council and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
The Emory News Center, an online platform launched in January by the Office of Communications and Marketing to showcase University news and feature stories, has won Outstanding Achievement awards in two categories, in both News and Education, in the annual Interactive Media Awards competition.
The News Center — which is the new online home for Emory Report — was judged against nominations from around the world using criteria that considered technical, editorial and visual aspects of the website, including areas of design, content, feature functionality and usability.
In its debut year, the Emory News Center was judged as representing "a very high standard of planning, execution and overall professionalism." Those credited with design, creation and implementation of the site include:
• Wendy Darling, communications specialist, health sciences communications
• Erica Endicott, graphics designer, Emory Creative Group
• Jan Gleason, executive director of University Marketing
• Jill Hennecy, senior online producer, University Media Relations
• Elaine Justice, associate director, University Media Relations
• Alejandro Leal, online producer, Emory Report
• Emily Looney, online content manager, University Marketing
• John Mills, executive producer of web and online media
• Emily Porter, senior web developer, Office of Information Technology
• Nancy Seideman, associate vice president, University Communications and executive director, University Media Relations
• Kim Urquhart, editor, Emory Report.
The commemorative issue, with its distinctive cover featuring the artwork of award-winning editorial cartoonist Mike Luckovich, won a bronze award for Cover Illustration and a silver award in the Periodical Special Issues category.
Recognition for the creation and design of the anniversary issue goes to:
• Susan Carini, executive director Emory Creative Group.
• Erica Endicott, art director
• Mary Loftus, associate editor
• Paige Parvin, editor.
Also earning CASE honors was the Candler School of Theology, which received a silver award in the category of Institution-wide Branding Campaigns for its "REAL" marketing campaign. Recognized are:
• April Bogle, communications consultant for Candler School of Theology and communications director for Emory's Center for the Study of Law and Religion
• Laurel Hanna, director of communications for Candler School of Theology.
