Emory will celebrate International Education Week from Nov. 17-21, aiming to expand the university’s positive impact by broadening worldviews, fostering collaboration and driving innovation in global education, research and engagement.

In line with the Emory College of Arts and Sciences’ Year of Compassion, Emory Global Engagement will convene stakeholders across the Atlanta and Oxford campuses with the theme “One World Many Voices: Education for a Compassionate Future.”

Emory will highlight its cultural diversity, bringing together faculty, staff, students and alumni to celebrate their global education experiences and foster networking and collaboration around global engagement.

Last year’s International Education Week was a resounding success. Led by a planning committee that spans the Emory community, there were more than 35 virtual and in-person events on the Atlanta and Oxford campuses.

This year’s activities include International Wonderful Wednesday, Passport Day, food events, a faculty global research showcase and more. Check out the calendar of events, which will continue to be updated with events, to see the full selection of offerings.

A flagship initiative for this year’s celebration is an essay contest reflecting on the theme “Education for a Compassionate Future.”This year’s contest will celebrate and award cash prizes to the essay contest winners at a special IEW welcome reception. More than 100 Emory undergraduate and graduate students submitted entries last year.

“We are thrilled to host International Education Week at Emory. It’s a vibrant reminder of Emory’s commitment to global learning and the power of international educational exchange to transform perspectives,” says Jane Gatewood, vice provost for Emory Global Engagement.

“International Education Week gives us the opportunity to honor and celebrate the global perspectives that enrich our campus every day. This is my first International Education Week at Emory since joining earlier this year, and I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate it with you all here at my alma mater.”

Emory’s festivities highlight the power of global education in breaking down barriers and fostering understanding and empathy. This includes celebrating the rich contribution of global voices among faculty, staff, students and alumni; international research exchange; and the variety of international education experiences and programs Emory offers.
