In collaboration with Campus Life departments, university partners and recognized student organizations, Emory First is hosting a week of events for this year’s National First-Generation College Celebration. Events kick off Friday, Nov. 8, with “First-Gen Friday: Treat Yo Self,” an opportunity for students and colleagues to gather for food and activities focused on well-being and creative reflection. The celebration resumes the following week, Monday through Friday, Nov. 11-15.

A full list of events is available on the Emory First website.

Emory’s First-Gen College Celebration Week offers opportunities for the campus community to participate in various events such as a letter-writing activity honoring veterans and a session offering a supportive space for students to share thoughts on civic engagement. Additional events include a bonfire at the Campus Life Pavilion and a graduate student mixer featuring live music.

“We are excited to work with our many partners throughout the Emory community to celebrate the National First-Generation College Celebration on our university campus,” says Mike Jones, Emory First director.

“This week-long event is one of many Emory programs and resources that continue to serve, celebrate and center the identities and lived experiences of first-generation college students and/or those from low- and limited-income backgrounds,” says Jones.

A part of Campus Life’s Belonging and Community Justice initiative, Emory First builds on the university’s long history of ensuring that all students have access to the resources and sense of community essential to their successful educational journey.

Emory First is one of the six student identity spaces serving all Emory students, cultivating community-building and supporting the university’s commitment to student flourishing.
