Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital hosted an Open House and Blessing of two units located on 7 East and 7 West, recognizing the growth and expansion of complex medical surgical and oncology service lines. In keeping with the Emory Saint Joseph's tradition of a unit opening, Father Miguel Grave de Peralta, the hospital's Director of Pastoral Care, offered a scripture reading and benediction, followed by a blessing of the designated areas and the sprinkling of Holy water.
7 West is the new home of Emory Saint Joseph's complex medical surgical unit, which has the ability to care for 18 critically ill patients. "Our unit accommodates the hospital's continued growth, while also offering a comfortable and private setting for patients," says Unit Director Michele Chisolm. "Our team provides care for patients who have undergone various cardiac and general surgical procedures," she added.
The newly refurbished 7 East unit houses all of Emory Saint Joseph's oncology patients, says Unit Director Patricia Guasch. "The opening of 7 East has allowed us to expand our oncology services and gives us the opportunity to provide evidenced based and patient- and family-centered care to our oncology patients. We hope to work together as a team to advocate on behalf of our patients to ensure their quality of life and their access to exemplary care throughout their life. The staff of 7 East is proud to care for our patients and to continue our mission of providing compassionate care in the recovery of our patients."
A staff of 26 cares for 18 patients on 7 East, and there are four suites adjoining patient rooms on the unit, which provide a comfortable and private setting for family members.
