New year, new you is theme of Jan. 10 health expo

A "Healthy New YOU Expo," on Thursday, Jan. 10 in the Cox Hall ballroom, will cover a range of topics and tools to help Emory employees improve their health.

Sponsored by the Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), the expo runs from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and features door prizes, giveaways and food samples.

Employees are encouraged to drop in throughout the day or stay awhile for the expo events, including sessions on fitness such as boot camp or a workout plan from the Blomeyer Fitness Center; avoiding diet fads; finding a personal fashion style; managing stress; getting back into dating; and increasing personal enthusiasm.

A cooking demonstration will begin at noon, with tastings of all dishes available.

Pick up a free compact fluorescent light bulb, bike map, seasonal food guide and more at the Emory Sustainability booth.

Dawn McMillian, wellness specialist with FSAP, says that the expo will offer an onsite opportunity to sign up for a biometric screening appointment.  The biometric screening appointments, available at various convenient campus locations from Jan. 15 through Feb. 21, "will allow employees and staff to receive more personalized information about their health status and provide them with information and resources to help them improve their wellness in specific areas," McMillian says.

"Emory wants all of its employees to start the new year off with the goal of improving their wellness and is offering many avenues through which to do that.  The Healthy New YOU Expo is a fun, festive and immediate opportunity for employees and staff to take part in activities that will improve their health," McMillian says.
