Liberal Arts Forward is a new electronic briefing created to keep the Emory community informed of the process and progress of the Commission on the Liberal Arts.
The first issue includes Provost Earl Lewis' charge to the commission, an overview of the four subcommittees that will structure the process ahead, and an introduction from the commission co-chairs, Steve Everett and Claire Sterk. They note:
"Despite the prestigious appointment of Provost Earl Lewis as the next president at the Mellon Foundation, the commission will continue to be an essential process for Emory," and that Emory's leaders remain committed to receiving the commission's recommendations and providing resources.
Everett is professor of music and director of the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence. Sterk is Candler Professor of Behavioral Science and Health Education, Rollins School of Public Health and senior vice provost for academic affairs; Commission Co-Chair
The commission blog, liberalartsforwardemory.com, provides more information. The blog offers a place to comment on the work and issues of the commission, additional background reading, and more detailed information about the subcommittees, the full text of the commission charge, and links to biographies of each of the commission members.
