As the spring semester begins winding down, Emory continues to deliver an impressive array of concerts featuring everything from jazz combos to a high-energy chamber orchestra.
Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta Noontime Series presents Robert Spano, piano performing with the Vega String Quartet in Michael C. Carlos Museum on Tuesday, April 3 at noon. Conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Spano is currently an Emory Distinguished Artist in Residence. Spano and the Vega String Quartet will be performing Brahms' Quintet in F Minor.
Emory Jazz Combos will be performing on Tuesday, April 3 at 8 p.m., and also on Thursday, April 5 and 26 at 6 p.m. outdoors at Patterson Pavilion.
Also as part of ECMSA's Noontime Series, Christopher Rex, cello and Eun Sun Lee, viola perform with the Vega String quartet on April 20 at noon in Michael C. Carlos Museum. Together, they will be performing Brahms' Sextet for Strings in B-flat minor.
Flora Glenn Candler Concert Series brings celebrated soprano Dawn Upshaw to Emory on Friday, April 6 at 8 p.m. Combining a rare natural warmth with a fierce commitment to the transforming communicative power of music, Upshaw has achieved worldwide celebrity as a singer of opera and concert repertoire ranging from the sacred works of Bach to the freshest sounds of today. Also part of the Flora Glenn Candler Concert Series, the Australian Chamber Orchestra will be performing on Thursday, April 12 at 8 p.m. Internationally renowned for their rapturous audience response, the high-energy Australian Chamber Orchestra stimulates hearts and minds with their virtuosity. The ensemble will be joined by baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes and will be performing Mahler, Shostakovich and Beethoven. Tickets: $46; Faculty/staff $36; Emory students $10.
On April 20 and 21 at 8 p.m., the Emory University Symphony Orchestra and Emory University Chorus join forces in a performance of Mozart's "Coronation Mass", Brahms' "Nanïe" and Beethoven's "Egmont Overture."
Emory University Big Band performs on Tuesday, April 24 at 8 p.m. in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. Both the Emory Big Band and Emory jazz combos will be playing a variety of selections of Jazz standards and newer jazz pieces at this performance.
