From Waffle House to Winship: How a 25-year-old man became a patient of Emory’s new Brain Tumor Center

After collapsing at a Waffle House, 25-year-old Joe Bowers was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor and received care through Winship’s newly launched Brain Tumor Center. Emory historian Ruby Lal has been named the 2027 Kluge Chair at the Library of Congress. During her residency, she will research and write a new book exploring the human history behind the Taj Mahal and Mughal Empire.

Applications are open for the 2026-27 Sustainability Incentives Fund

The fund offers faculty, staff and students the opportunity to apply for funding for projects, research or culture change initiatives that advance sustainability at Emory. Applicants can apply for grants under five award categories: General Sustainability, Climate Action Plan, Break Free from Plastics, Green Offices and Green Labs.
