Emory chemist Vincent Conticello and PhD candidate Andres Gonzalez Socorro discovered a protein secreted by a deep-sea extremophile — an organism adapted to extreme environmental conditions — that self-assembles into a biofilm and is highly stable, boosting its potential for biomedical applications.
