Emory Model United Nations competed at the Security Council Simulation at Yale (SCSY) in New Haven, Conn., Oct. 15-18, where it had its best showing in club history. Model UN, the traveling component of the Emory International Relations Association (EIRA), is a competitive traveling team that participates at collegiate simulations across the country.

The team of 12 delegates, led by Co-President Camille Vinogradov 16C and Head Delegate Ryan Stevenson 16C, earned five individual awards as well as Outstanding Large Delegation. The delegation award is the largest prize that Model UN has received in club history. Emory competed against 29 schools from across the country, including top-ranked teams from McGill University, Vanderbilt University and the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Currently ranked 14th nationally, according to the Model UN website Best Delegate, EIRA hopes to break into the top 10, joining established organizations such as Georgetown, Harvard and the University of Chicago.

In total, over 50 Emory delegates will go on to compete at three other conferences on the circuit this semester: the National Collegiate Security Conference at Georgetown University, the Duke International Security Conference at Duke University, and the University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference.

Beyond traveling, EIRA promotes knowledge of international affairs on campus, and frequently holds programming events and lectures on an array of topics. Emory will also host its own collegiate conference, Model United Nations at Emory (MUNE), for the fourth time in the spring, where delegates from elite schools will come to campus to take part in thematic simulations.

As one of the largest interest groups on campus, EIRA continues to engage students on international affairs, while promoting the Emory brand at events across the country.
