Emory ALS Center launches new ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with a splash

The Emory ALS Center kicked off a new ALS Ice Bucket Challenge challenge Friday, August 21, in front of the Emory University School of Medicine, with buckets of ice water and fundraising challenges issued to groups across campus.

As one of the largest clinical centers for ALS in the United States, the Emory ALS Center receives important local funding from organizations like the ALS Association's Georgia Chapter. This year, the center is joining their effort to promote the ALS "Every August Until A Cure" campaign, which strives during the month of August to escalate awareness and fundraising for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) through initiatives like the famous Ice Bucket Challenge.

Emory doctors Nicholas Boulis and Jonathan Glass of the Emory ALS Center issued challenges to the following group to match the ALS Center's fundraising: 1) the incoming class of medical students at Emory University School of Medicine; 2) all residents in Neurosurgery and Neurology departments at Emory; 3) administrative staff at the new Emory Brain Health Center; and 4) the whole incoming freshmen class at Emory College.

The hashtags for the fundraising challenge are #EveryAugustUntilACure and #ALSIceBucketChallenge.
