Immigration will be the focus of the 15th annual Legal Ethics & Professionalism Symposium, hosted by the Center for the Study of Law and Religion and co-presented by Emory University School of Law and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education in Georgia.
The event will be held Friday, Nov. 14, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Gambrell Hall, 1301 Clifton Road. Topics include immigration and criminal law; ethics and business immigration; immigration and family law; access to justice and immigrant representation.
Peter Markowitz, clinical associate professor at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and co-founder of the New York Immigrant Family Unity Project, will give the keynote address and Don S. Browning Memorial Lecture.
Dana Leigh Marks, president of the National Association of Immigration Judges, will give the opening plenary.
Attorneys receive six CLE hours, including one hour of ethics and one hour of professionalism. The cost for attorneys and judges is $55 for pre-registration or $65 for on-site registration; students and the general public pay $10 for pre-registration or $20 for on-site registration. Lunch is included.
The Center for the Study of Law and Religion at Emory University is the field's oldest, most recognized scholarly center. It engages 1,600 scholars worldwide and offers six advanced degrees, 40 cross-listed courses, research projects, public forums and international conferences.
