Great news for those who follow the daily happenings in our city, state, country and the world: Emory University students, faculty and staff now have direct access to a complimentary digital subscription to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC), thanks to new licensing arrangements between Emory Libraries and the publisher.

In addition, the Emory University community can also enjoy new direct digital access to The Atlantic magazine, known for its in-depth articles on politics, culture, literary arts, global affairs and technology. The Financial Times, the esteemed British business and economics daily newspaper, is another welcome addition to Emory Libraries’ digital offerings.

These newly added publications come on the heels of direct access arrangements with The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and several other newspapers and magazines (including the daily French newspaper Le Monde) via Emory Libraries’ subscriptions.

The AJC is the leading daily paper for Atlanta and covers political, social, cultural and economic stories across Georgia and the Southeast. Emory Libraries announced direct digital access to the AJC in April.

Previously, the Emory University community had access to many of the publications but needed to log into a database and follow complicated protocols that often led to a view of the publication’s print pages.

Now, patrons with an active Emory University ID can register for a complimentary account with the publications they choose by using an Emory-specific link. After the account has been activated, patrons can log in directly to their account through a browser or the publication’s app.

Instructions to set up access can be found in the “Stay Connected” research guide.

The Libraries also relaunched its subscription to the PressReader service in spring 2025. This service covers several thousand international papers and magazines, providing the university community with additional contemporary global news and media coverage.

“Emory Libraries is happy to support this suite of news and media offerings, which spans geographies, languages and perspectives and provides the entire Emory University community with access to critical, up-to-date reporting and analysis for research, teaching and civic engagement,” says Chris Palazzolo, Emory Libraries director of collections and open strategies, who arranged the access with each vendor. “By providing and facilitating such access, we hope to further Emory’s commitment to cultivating informed, globally conscious scholars and professionals.”

The news offerings include the following:

  • Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC)
  • The Atlantic magazine
  • The New York Times
  • The Wall Street Journal
  • The Chronicle of Higher Education
  • Financial Times
  • Le Monde (French newspaper)
  • PressReader

Palazzolo says Emory University patrons will enjoy the more convenient access to these trusted news sources, whether they rely on them for classwork, research or personal interest.

“This access is something that people have been requesting for a long time,” says Palazzolo. “We’re so pleased that we can make these resources available to the Emory University community.”
