Jena Sibille says she is “thrilled” to join the Carlos Museum as its associate museum director for public programs.

The Michael C. Carlos Museum has appointed Jena Sibille as its associate museum director for public programs. In this role, Sibille will take on master planning of the Carlos Museum’s public programs, including talks, lectures and K-12 programs. She will also manage the development of the museum’s exhibitions.

“I am very excited to welcome Jena to our team at the museum,” says Henry Kim, associate vice provost and director of the Carlos. “Over the last two years, we have focused our efforts on re-centering our narratives, placing communities at the heart of our programs. With her extensive experience in community engagement, Jena is a perfect fit for us at this moment in time, as we look to deepening our work with communities.”

Sibille has extensive experience developing and delivering museum programs in Atlanta, most recently, at the Fulton County Schools Teaching Museum and Archives. There, she directed two museum facilities and managed the archives. She also ran educational programming for the school district, which served 80,000 students through more than 800 programs each year. In addition, Sibille supervised, curated and managed the creation of museum exhibits.

“For years, I have benefited from the Carlos Museum’s excellent exhibitions and programs, enjoying many family events, lectures and tours,” says Sibille, adding that she is “thrilled to join this team of creative professionals in support of expanding the museum’s community engagement and impact.”

Sibille began her career with the Peace Corps, serving as an educator for school and museum programs in Papua New Guinea. She returned to Atlanta, where she developed community relations for the Fulton County Arts and Culture department before joining the High Museum of Art’s education team. Prior to joining Fulton County Schools, she worked as an educational program consultant, developing programs and leading trainings for museums and schools throughout the Southeast.

Sibille earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Education degrees from University of Georgia and received her teaching certification from Columbus State University. In 2020, she was recognized as the National Art Education Association’s Southeastern Museum Educator of the Year.
