Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing Associate Clinical Professor LisaMarie Wands, PhD, RN, FNAP, CHSE-A, CNE, has been selected for induction into the National League for Nursing (NLN) Academy of Nursing Education.

Wands is among 23 nursing educators recognized for exceptional contributions to academic leadership, teaching and learning innovation, nursing education research, faculty development, and public policy that advances nursing education. She joins a select group of 429 fellows from top-ranked teaching hospitals, academic institutions, and other organizations who serve as mentors and thought leaders, helping shape the future of nursing education.

In an email announcing the new fellows, NLN Chair Patricia Sharpnack, DNP, RN, CNE, NEA-BC, ANEF, FAAN, applauded them for their leadership, fortitude, creativity and compassion in motivating students. “Thanks to [them], generations of nursing students have learned to do their best to deliver outstanding, inclusive care to a diverse patient population as they transition to practice in an increasingly dynamic and challenging health care environment,” she added.

Wands has served on the Emory faculty since 2014, teaching pre-licensure students. She is a Certified Nurse Educator and holds advanced certification as a health care simulation educator. Her scholarship centers on simulation-based teaching and learning, and she has published widely on simulation initiatives. In 2024, the National Academies of Practice inducted her as a Distinguished Scholar Fellow in Nursing, specifically recognizing her collaborative work in implementing interprofessional educational activities.

An active member of professional organizations such as the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), Wands collaborates with colleagues worldwide to advance simulation education across the health professions. She earned a PhD from Florida Atlantic University and has completed fellowships with the VA Quality Scholars Program, INACSL, and the NLN’s Leadership Development Program for Simulation Educators.

The induction ceremony for new NLN Academy of Nursing Education Fellows will take place during the 2025 NLN Education Summit on Sept. 19 in Orlando, Fla.
