The National League for Nursing (NLN) has designated the Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing as a 2025 Center of Excellence in Nursing Education.
This honor places Emory among a select group of 21 nursing programs nationwide honored for excellence across four key areas: promoting the pedagogical expertise of faculty, enhancing student learning and professional development, advancing the science of nursing education, and — new this year — creating learning environments that impact climate change and planetary health.
The NLN is recognizing Emory for its work in advancing the science of nursing education.
“This designation is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our faculty, researchers and students to drive innovation and transform health care through evidence-based education,” says Dean Linda A. McCauley, PhD, RN, FAAN, FRCN. “We are truly honored to receive this recognition.”
The School of Nursing has long been at the forefront of advancing the science of nursing education, part of the calculus resulting in No. 1 rankings for both its bachelor’s and master’s nursing programs, according to U.S. News & World Report. Among its notable efforts are:
- Pioneering work in social determinants of health curriculum integration
- Research on evidence-based approaches to nursing education
- Research-focused BSN honors program
- Strategic measuring of learning outcomes in simulation education
- Technology-mediated nursing education
- Evidence-based nursing education practices for PhD students
- Engaging DNP students in nursing anesthesia simulation research
- Student engagement in AI technology research
The NLN first recognized the Emory School of Nursing as a Center of Excellence in 2017 as a designee for enhancing student learning and professional development – a five-year designation that was reaffirmed in 2022. The school also holds a designation for promoting the pedagogical expertise of faculty, which was given in 2021.
The NLN will recognize the 2025 Centers of Excellence at its annual Education Summit in Orlando, Fla., on Sept. 19.
