Dr. Daniel L. Barrow

Daniel L. Barrow, MD, the Pamela R. Rollins Professor and Chair of Emory University’s Department of Neurosurgery, has been awarded the 2025 Distinguished Service Award by The Society of Neurological Surgeons (SNS). The honor recognizes Barrow’s decades of leadership, scholarship and lasting contributions to the field.

Barrow has led Emory’s neurosurgery department since 1995 and is widely known for advancing surgical care, education and research. His clinical focus includes cerebrovascular disorders, and he has authored hundreds of scientific publications and several textbooks widely used in neurosurgical training.

Under Barrow’s leadership, the department has seen expansion to Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Emory Decatur Hospital. Barrow also oversaw the establishment of the first dedicated intensive care unit for neurosurgical patients in Georgia, as well as the Emory MBNA Stroke Center to foster better outcomes for stroke care.

In addition to his work at Emory, Barrow has served in leadership roles across the nation’s top neurological surgery organizations, including as president of the Society of Neurological Surgeons from 2018 to 2019.

The award was presented at the SNS Annual Meeting in May in New York City.
