For the third straight year, master’s degree programs at the Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing are ranked the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of graduate schools, released today.
The school’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Master of Nursing (MN) programs rank No. 1 among all nursing schools, joining its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, which was named the country’s top baccalaureate nursing program last fall. The school’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is also in the top 10, coming in at No. 8.
Multiple graduate specialties at the School of Nursing also earned high marks in today’s rankings, including:
- No. 2 – Best Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
- No. 4 – Best Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- No. 4 – Best DNP Gerontology, Primary Care (tied)
- No. 5 – Best Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (tied)
- No. 6 – Best DNP Gerontology, Acute Care
- No. 6 – Best Family Nurse Practitioner (tied)
- No. 7 – Best DNP Family Nurse Practitioner

Recent achievements from the School of Nursing include:
- With robust research hubs in areas such as aging studies, artificial intelligence/data science, and oncology, the school is No. 3 among all nursing schools for National Institutes of Health grant funding in fiscal year 2024, receiving more than $18 million. The school has been in the top five for 10 consecutive years.
- Enrollment has grown from 475 students to more than 1,400 students during McCauley’s 15-year tenure.
- Sixty-three faculty and emeritus faculty are Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing, the profession’s most accomplished leaders in nursing education, management, practice, and research.
- The school is a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence for work in enhancing student learning and professional development and promoting the pedagogical expertise of faculty.
