Emory Digital announces new service for spam emails

On March 20, Emory Digital will enable an improved service for protecting users from potentially malicious emails.

Most spam emails will still end up in one’s junk folder. With the new service, however, exceptional email threats will be placed in Microsoft quarantine. The recipient will be notified of these messages via a daily digest email with the header, “Microsoft 365 security: You have messages in quarantine.”

The Enterprise Messaging & Directory Services team, which tested and is installing the improved quarantine service, recognizes that some legitimate email may occasionally be caught in the quarantine. However, users can still control what happens to the potentially dangerous messages. Within this added layer of protection, users can:

  • Receive a daily digest email informing them that items were put into quarantine for review.
  • Delete quarantined emails (but only in the quarantine itself, not via the digest email).
  • Release regular spam emails labeled as “Spam.”
  • Release legitimate email categorized as “Phishing or high confidence phishing” by pressing the “Request release” button.

In addition to releasing legitimate emails from the quarantine, users can also request the email be released by submitting a “Service Now” ticket to the Emory Cyber Security Team.

Please send questions and queries concerning the quarantine update to security@emory.edu
