The Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing has added four scholars to its faculty – mid-year appointments that reflect the school’s continued growth.

Heather Allstrom,
DNP, WHNP, RN
Senior Clinical Instructor

  • Previous Position: Clinical instructor and student, Women’s Health/Gender-Related Nurse Practitioner DNP program, Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.
  • Teaching/Research: Allstrom’s research focuses on the intersections of climate change, women’s health, and pharmaceutics, equipping women’s health providers to evaluate clients’ risks. She teaches prelicensure pharmacology, prioritizing student engagement and active learning.

Rebecca Ann Ivory, DNP, MS, PMHNP-BC, ARNP
Assistant Clinical Professor

  • Previous Position: Psychiatry postdoctoral fellowship, Veterans Affairs/University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle, Washington
  • Teaching/Research: Ivory specializes in military and federal agency Special Operations Forces neuropsychiatry outcomes and care. Her scholarship centers on the outcomes of subconcussive traumatic head injuries and chronic exposure to low-level blasts. She will primarily teach mental health nursing in the prelicensure track.

Janelle Jones, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC
Senior Clinical Instructor

  • Previous Position: Assistant professor, inaugural Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner track coordinator (postgraduate and BSN-DNP), St. Catherine University School of Nursing; psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, University of Minnesota-Boynton Clinic 
  • Teaching/Research: Jones’ research includes the impacts of adverse childhood experiences and social determinants of health on mental and physical health. Her teaching experience includes graduate-level didactic courses for psychopharmacology, neurobiology, and lifespan assessment and diagnosis courses for psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners.   

Runze Yan, PhD
Research Assistant Professor

  • Previous Position: Postdoctoral fellowship, Center for Data Science, Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing
  • Teaching/Research: Yan’s research focuses on the application of AI in health care. He has experience developing machine learning and deep learning methods for wearable and mobile devices aimed at modeling human behavior and predicting health and well-being outcomes.
