A message from Emory's police chief

Editor's note: The following message was shared with the Emory community via email on Nov. 30, 2024.

Dear Emory Community,

Earlier today, several campus alert messages were distributed regarding a police emergency on our Atlanta campus. Below I am including additional information about the events that precipitated these alerts.

At 8:19 a.m., the Emory Police Department (EPD) was notified of a possible armed robbery at the CVS in Emory Point, an apartment and retail complex adjacent to Emory’s Atlanta campus. EPD officers responded immediately, and the individuals who were potentially involved in the incident fled the area. A community alert was issued asking everyone to avoid Emory Point while EPD, the Atlanta Police Department and the DeKalb County Police Department continued searching the area. Once the area was searched and no subjects were located, an all-clear notification was issued at 10:09 a.m. This incident remains an active police investigation.

We know that incidents like these can be upsetting and stressful. Please remember that Emory has a variety of resources available to support you. As a reminder, please download the Emory Safe app to stay informed during emergency situations on campus.

Our top priority will always be the safety and security of the Emory community.

Best,

Burt Buchtinec

Chief, Emory Police Department
