2. Familiarize yourself with the new technology for the new semester.

Faculty are invited to a webinar on what’s new for fall 2024 on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. Attendees will learn about new technology tools and software features, including Canvas updates, Gradescope and Poll Everywhere. Advance registration is needed.

3. Join a webinar to learn about integrating your personal values into your career.

Some individuals are unsure of how to align their personal values with their career, which can lead them to feel unsatisfied with their jobs and performance. On Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 12 p.m., learn how to “Love Your Career by Working with Your Values” alongside Emory alum Maureen Sweatman, certified leadership and personal development coach.

Sweatman will focus on how to get clear on personal values so that it is easier to find fulfillment and joy in professional life. This webinar is open to the Emory community and is free to attend. Registration is required online.

4. Tour the School of Medicine Innovation Center.

Learn about the resources available at the School of Medicine Innovation Center during a tour on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 4 p.m. The Center has plenty of unique technology to support research needs that will be showcased, including Extended Reality (XR), Lab2Launch and 3D printing/bioprinting and micromachining. To join the tour, RSVP online and meet in the first-floor atrium of the Health Science Research Building II before 4 p.m. This tour is free and open to the public.

5. Learn how to handle difficult conversations.

When people find themselves stuck, it might be because they aren’t sure how to hold crucial conversations. Learn how to spot these conversational hurdles, understand the problem and obtain tools to hold the right conversations at the right time in the “Crucial Conversations” course from Emory University Human Resources on Tuesday, Aug. 20 and 27. Emory University staff are invited to participate in this two-part course (registration is required).

6. Help welcome the Class of 2028 with the Emory Gate Crossing and Coke Toast.

Welcome the class of 2028 at the Emory Gate Crossing and Coke Toast on Monday, Aug. 26. Students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to help cheer on the incoming first-year students as they cross through the gate and participate in the annual toast. Arrive at 10 a.m. to find a spot on the brick sidewalk between the Emory Gate and the Quad. The student procession will begin at 10:15 a.m. and the community will be invited to join the Coke toast afterward. The event will conclude at 11 a.m.

7. Learn about sustainability programs and academic offerings at Emory’s Annual Student Sustainability Showcase.

The Student Sustainability Showcase introduces students to involvement opportunities with sustainability-related departments and organizations on campus. 8. Practice your sculpting skills at the Student Studio Session.

Carlos Museum’s monthly drop-in art-making session and first student studio of the year, “Just Claying Around.” Students are invited to stop by, take a break and enjoy viewing and creating art. The event will be Friday, Aug. 30, from 1-4 p.m. in the Tate Room, located on the museum’s Plaza Level. Admission is free to Emory students and the event is first come, first served while supplies last.

9. Get more out of a visit to the Carlos Museum with a docent-led tour.
