Emory students shine at Undergraduate Research Symposium

On Friday, April 19, the Emory Student Center was awash in new knowledge at the Undergraduate Research Symposium, the final event of Undergrad Research Week.

The event highlighted student creativity, scholarship and research across various fields, including the humanities, social sciences and STEM.

The event was hosted by Undergraduate Research Programs (URP), part of the Pathways Center. Many students were presenting research marking the end of their yearlong involvement in The Scholarly Inquiry and Research Experience Program (SIRE), a hands-on research opportunity for first-time undergraduate researchers.

The event concluded with a reception and a presentation by guest speaker Vincent Willis, Emory alum, current associate professor of interdisciplinary social sciences at The University of Alabama and author of “Audacious Agitation: The Uncompromising Commitment of Black Youth to Equal Education After Brown.”

Students interested in learning more about research at Emory should connect with URP, which offers year-round research assistance as well as independent research funding and conference presentation grant funding. Applications are also open for the upcoming SIRE Program cohort.
