Now in its ninth year, Move More is one of Healthy Emory’s most popular campaigns, encouraging employees to increase their physical activity. The 2024 Move More campaign kicked off April 15 and continues through May 26. Employees can join through Friday, May 3.
“Move More is intended to be an engaging, fun way for colleagues to connect,” explains Danielle Lenane, senior manager of well-being programs. “Unlike some of our other campaigns, which focus more on the individual, Move More allows employees to create or join a team and work with their teammates to accomplish their goals. However, some employees still decide to participate as individuals, which is also fine. The ultimate goal is to Move More.”
This year, Healthy Emory encourages employees to move together with a new series of walking groups across Emory offered during the campaign.
“We currently have over 20 walking groups at various locations at Emory University and Emory Healthcare,” says wellness specialist Lauren Bagnall. “And it’s so easy to join a group — simply show up at one of our locations and enjoy walking.”
Move More is also a great way for Emory leaders to engage with their teams uniquely.
Krystyna Morgan, director of Emory’s Office of Well-Being (EmWELL) started a walking program with leaders of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC) to encourage leader/team interactions through a series of healthy walks.
“As Vince Lombardi said, leading by example is not the best way to lead; it’s the only way,” says Morgan. “I am thrilled to see our leaders step forward to not only partake but lead the walks across our campuses. This is an example of well-being becoming more integrated into daily work life, rather than something extra we do on the side when there is time.”
“Walks with leaders are a great way to foster the sense of community and encourage authentic human connections, all while getting nature therapy,” Morgan adds.
Earn incentives or rewards for participating
Move More is open to all benefits-eligible employees, spouses and Pre-65 retirees on an Emory medical plan.
Participants in Move More can earn a $75 medical plan well-being incentive if they are on an Emory medical plan. Benefits-eligible employees who have waived participation in an Emory medical plan will be entered in a raffle to win one of the following:
- Swedish/therapeutic massages (30 minutes)
- Personal training session (30 minutes)
- $25 gift card
- One-month membership to a participating Emory fitness facility
Participants can sync their devices to the Healthy Emory Connect (Sharecare) app to automatically track their steps and activity or can enter activities manually. This converter chart assists with calculating steps for many activities.
“Physical activity comes in many forms, and each person's journey to fitness is unique,” explains Lenane. “Whether it's swimming, cycling, weightlifting, yoga or any other activity, what matters most is finding what brings you joy and helps you stay active and healthy.”
