Emory Healthcare and Hazelden Betty Ford celebrate unique collaboration at public ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. ET

WHAT: Two years after launching the Addiction Alliance of Georgia (AAG) partners Emory Healthcare and the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation are celebrating the opening of the Emory Addiction Center at a formal ribbon cutting ceremony. The new Center offers outpatient and intensive-outpatient addiction treatment and co-occurring mental health care for adolescents and adults.

Made possible by almost $10 million in donations from public and private community partners, the Emory Addiction Center advances AAG’s goal of confronting the state’s critical addiction and overdose epidemic through addiction-related clinical care, education and research.

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 26, 1:00 p.m. ET. Members of the media are invited to arrive early for a tour of the new clinic facility.

WHO: A variety of representatives from Hazelden Betty Ford, Emory Healthcare and Atlanta-area community organizers of AAG will be on hand for interviews. A few key participants include:

  • William C. Moyers - Bestselling author and national recovery advocate, Moyers will emcee the program. A former Atlantan and CNN journalist, Moyers struggled with the disease for years and has now been thriving in recovery even longer. Moyers is a vice president at Hazelden and was a key player in the creation of the AAG.
  • Justine Welsh – Emory Healthcare addiction psychiatrist and medical director of the AAG’s Emory Addiction Center.
  • Tom Johnson - retired president of CNN, community organizer and key player in the creation of AAG.
  • Frank Boykin –CFO of Mohawk Industries, community organizer and key player in the creation of AAG.
  • Cammie Rice – advocate and mother, Rice lost her son to an opioid overdose. This recentstory tells more about her work and new book raising awareness about the addiction epidemic.

About the Addiction Alliance of Georgia

Utilizing the experience and strengths of two national health care leaders, Emory Healthcare and the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, the Addiction Alliance of Georgia is a comprehensive partnership dedicated to reducing substance-use-disorder rates; improving recovery rates; and bringing hope, healing and health to more people and families throughout Georgia and beyond.   • Turn left at the stop sign to stay on Towers Circle 
  • Follow Towers Circle all the way to the end to Emory University Hospital at Wesley Woods 
  • The Addiction Center entrance is the furthest on left end of the building. 
  • The Addiction Center Suite 1200 entrance is across the lobby 
  • Parking: Patient parking is in front of Wesley Woods Hospital just before the circular drive. Parking is free.
