Oxford College celebrates Mid-autumn Festival

The Oxford College Chinese classes, Oxford Chinese Student Association and Korean American Student Association hosted the Mid-autumn Festival at Oxford College last weekend.

The Mid-autumn Festival began as a harvest festival during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It is still celebrated across Asia on Sept. 10 (the 15th day of the eighth month of the Lunar calendar). During the Oxford celebration, students made ice-skin mooncakes and origami moons, tried traditional Chinese clothes Hanfu, decorated moon and rabbit cookies and enjoyed traditional Chinese music performed by the Oxford Chinese Music Club.

Though the moon wasn’t shining that night, the festival still symbolized abundance, harmony, family and reunion.
