Emory hosts Nate Silver to discuss 2022 midterm elections

Nationally known pollster Nate Silver will talk with Emory political scientists Bernard Fraga and Andra Gillespie and answer student questions about this fall’s congressional elections at an event Feb. 24.

With the 2022 midterm elections just a few months away, Emory’s Department of Political Science is hosting nationally known pollster Nate Silver to discuss what we might expect.

Emory Votes Initiative’s Hannah Gebresilassie will introduce Silver at the event, which will be Thursday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m. in the Emory Student Center.

Silver, who has championed the use of statistical analysis since founding the FiveThirtyEight website in 2007, will begin with a brief presentation to share his methods and offer insights into the congressional elections coming this fall.

His presentation with be followed by a conversation with Emory political scientists Andra Gillespie and Bernard Fraga about the elections. The event will conclude with audience Q&A.

“We know there is an interest in the Emory community for this discussion and we are looking forward to providing this opportunity for students to start engaging in real-world politics. There is a lot at stake in the upcoming midterm elections,” says political science professor and department chair Jennifer Gandhi.

Tickets are free but required for the event, with in-person attendance capped at 250 people. Students unable to secure a ticket will be able to watch a livestream of the event. More details about how to access the livestream will be available closer to the date.
