Emory’s volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer teams have advanced to compete in their respective NCAA Division III championship tournaments, with Emory hosting opening NCAA rounds for both volleyball and men’s soccer later this week.

Volleyball

Emory's volleyball team will host one of eight NCAA regional tournaments after the Eagles earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

The No. 14 ranked Eagles (23-5) will face off against Southern Virginia University (28-4) in the first round of the NCAA tournament at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Woodruff PE Center. This will be the third time the Eagles and Knights have matched up, with the Eagles sporting a record of 2-0, most recently defeating Southern Virginia by a score of 3-0 in September 2009.

The top-ranked team in the region is No. 12-ranked Berry College (25-2), who match up against Transylvania University (23-12) in the first round. The other teams in attendance at Emory are No. 16-ranked Southwestern University (24-5), Washington & Lee University (26-7), Christopher Newport University (22-9) and the University of Texas at Dallas (17-9). The final round at Emory will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday evening, with the winner earning a spot in NCAA DIII Championships in St. Louis, Missouri.

This marks Emory volleyball’s 25th consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament, with Head Coach Jenny McDowell at the helm for all 25.

Men’s soccer

Emory’s men's soccer team was one of 20 teams selected for an at-large bid for the NCAA tournament, marking the Eagles’ first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2017. Emory will host four teams for the sectional portion (first and second rounds) of the NCAA tournament.

The No. 17 ranked Eagles (9-3-4) will match up against the Colonels of Centre College (10-5-3) in the first round of the NCAA tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. Emory and Centre have matched up four times in the past, with the Eagles sporting a 0-3-1 record, most recently falling to the Colonels 1-0 in September 2015.

In addition to Centre, Emory will be joined by the University of Lynchburg (15-4-1) and Hanover College (14-4-1) in its four-team pod. Lynchburg will take on Hanover in the second game at the Woodruff PE Center on Saturday. The winners of the first two matches will face off at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon; the winner of that match advances to the regional round.

This marks the men’s soccer team’s 17th overall appearance in the NCAA tournament and second under Head Coach Cory Greiner.

Women’s soccer

The Emory University women's soccer team is headed back to the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive season as the Eagles were one of 20 teams chosen as an at-large selection in the field of 64.

The No. 21 ranked Eagles (11-4-3) have an impending showdown against the Tigers of Wittenberg University (10-8-1) on Nov. 12, in opening rounds taking place in Danville, Kentucky. The Eagles and Tigers have only faced off once before, ending in a tie after double-overtime in September 2008.

In addition to Wittenberg, Emory will be joined by Centre College (15-1-2) and Covenant College (13-5-2) in its four-team pod. Centre will take on the Covenant on Friday, followed by Emory versus Wittenberg. The two winners will face off against one another on Saturday afternoon, with the victor advancing to the regional round.

This marks Emory's women’s soccer team’s 19th overall appearance in the NCAA tournament and 11th under Head Coach Sue Patberg.
