Emory President Claire E. Sterk released the following statement on Aug. 28 after Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) announced that he will resign at the end of the year due to health issues.
“Emory has been proud to work with Senator Johnny Isakson since he began his political career in 1974. He is a public servant of the highest caliber and a true statesman. Putting into words all that Senator Isakson has meant to Emory and to the state of Georgia is impossible. Even today, he continues to provide advice, guidance and personal engagement on a number of issues that affect us statewide and as a nation.
"I am grateful that Senator Isakson has been our senator. His staff members have also been incredible partners. We will miss him, and — in partnership with him and his entire team — Emory is committed to helping make the next four months among the most lasting of the senator’s legacy.”
