Recently retired curator Randall K. Burkett will share stories of how he discovered and brought many African American collections to Emory’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book Library in a Creativity Conversation with former Rose Library director Rosemary Magee.
The conversation is set for Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. in the Jones Room at the Woodruff Library, with a reception and related exhibition viewing in the Schatten Gallery to follow at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public at no charge. However, due to limited seating, registration is required.
Burkett played a key role in securing many important acquisitions, including the papers of writers Alice Walker and Pearl Cleage, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and the extraordinary gift by Camille Billops and James Hatch of their priceless collection of rare books, manuscripts, photographs and oral histories that would otherwise be lost to history.
The event is in conjunction with the exhibition “Building Emory’s African American Collections: Highlights from the Curatorial Career of Randall K. Burkett,” on view in the Schatten Gallery through February 2019.
The Rosemary Magee Creativity Conversation Series highlights creativity and imagination as essential to every discipline and enterprise.
