Emory University is one of the nation’s best employers for women, according to new rankings released by Forbes magazine.
Emory placed 41st among 300 American companies, school systems and other organizations on Forbes’ 2018 “Best Employers for Women” list — the first time the business magazine has published rankings in that category.
According to Forbes, Emory ranked highest among the Atlanta-based companies that earned a place on the list, followed by BCD Travel (#73), Cox Enterprises (#102) and the Coca-Cola Company (#234).
“We are delighted to receive this recognition from Forbes,” says Del King, Emory’s associate vice president for human resources. “Emory has worked over the past several years to enhance our benefits and programs. This effort makes us particularly attractive as an employer for women and working families.
“Whether it’s career development opportunities, family-friendly benefits like paid parental leave, or workplace flexibility options, we are very proud of all that Emory has to offer its employees,” King notes. “We certainly applaud this recognition.”
Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to identify America’s 300 best employers for women. Rankings were calculated based upon the survey responses of some 40,000 Americans — including 25,000 women — who work for businesses with at least 1,000 employees.
The anonymous surveys asked respondents to rate their organizations on topics that included working conditions, diversity and how likely they would be to recommend their employer to others. Responses were then reviewed for potential gender gaps.
Female respondents were also asked to rate their employers on factors such as parental leave, discrimination and pay equity; they were also asked to nominate industries outside their own. The final list represents the top 300 employers that both received the most recommendations and reflect the most gender-diverse boards and executive ranks.
This year, Forbes also named Emory as one of America’s Best Employers — ranked 39 out of 500 companies — and placed the university 7th out of 250 on a list of America’s Best Employers for Diversity.
