Emory University President Claire E. Sterk issued the following statement about the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 26 decision in the case of Trump v. Hawaii.
Today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the executive order on immigration is deeply disappointing.
Over the past year, Emory joined with other leading universities to submit amicus briefs against the travel ban, arguing that such a ban hinders our ability to fulfill our mission as global research universities. At Emory in particular, our mission entails creating, preserving, teaching and applying knowledge in the service of all humanity — without exception.
We will continue working closely with our university colleagues and our community and governmental partners to ensure that Emory’s doors remain open to bright, dedicated thinkers from all nations, faiths and backgrounds.
