Register your electronics, bike online with Emory Police

You can now register your electronics, bicycles and other valuables with the Emory Police online.

Sign in to the Emory Police Operation ID database.

“Online registration is a new program,” says Emory Police Sgt. Rick Allen. “In the past, we registered property at the police department and at events in the residence halls.”

The service is available to anyone affiliated with Emory.

“You can register any item that has a serial number,” says Allen, property and evidence custodian. “There’s a choice of bicycle, electronics and other. You might register your Rolex watch under ‘other.’”

Allen explains how the registration program can help Emory Police locate the owners of items that are lost or stolen. “If an item is stolen, we need the make such as Apple, Sony, et cetera; model; and serial number for the report," he says. "The serial number will be entered in a national database of stolen property.”

Pawnshops are required to enter the items they receive in a database. If the serial number entered by the pawnshop links to the matching serial number in the stolen property database, it creates an alert for law enforcement that the item is located at a particular pawnshop.

“If the item it recovered by law enforcement, it can be tracked back to the Emory Police report,” Allen says.

Because this is a new service, Allen says, Emory Police won’t be able to determine the level of participation until after students return in the fall.
