Smoke from wildfires spreads in Georgia

Multiple fires continue to burn in North Georgia and Tennessee, creating significant smoky conditions for much of North and Central Georgia. Any time there is a northerly wind, we can anticipate smoky conditions in the area.

As these conditions continue, the National Weather Service will issue special weather statements. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division will issue air quality alerts. Pay attention to wind directions and weather conditions.

The Georgia Department of Public Health has issued an alert urging people, especially individuals with chronic heart and lung diseases, to protect themselves from smoke of the wildfires. According to the alert, people with existing respiratory conditions, young children and elderly people are especially susceptible to health effects from this smoke
