The Emory Dance program and Candler Concert Series welcome a host of Israeli guest artists Oct. 13-29 as a part of “EXPOSED,” a six-week contemporary dance and physical theater festival.

Artists Yossi Berg and Oded Graf Dance Theatre, Hillel Kogan and Anat Grigorio will be in residence on Emory’s campus to perform their own works, teach classes, and create new work for the Emory Dance Company’s November performance.

Oct. 13-15: Yossi Berg and Oded Graf Dance Theatre, “Come Jump with Me”

The daring and witty parody “Come Jump with Me” explores the choreographers’ relationship to their home state of Israel. The performers explore personal and collective Israeli history as they navigate the set’s allegorical jungle-gym of consciousness, finding their personal definition of "holiness" along the way. Tickets are available for $25, $15 for discount category members, and $12 for students.

Oct. 20-23: Anat Grigorio, “Mr. Nice Guy,” and Hillel Kogan, “We Love Arabs”

“Mr. Nice Guy” tackles issues of gender and identity by dissecting the politics of the male gaze, while “We Love Arabs” sardonically addresses themes of cultural diversity. Single tickets are $25, $15 for discount category members, and $12 for students.

Free events at Emory for "Exposed"

On Oct. 15 at 4 p.m., the public is invited to move with guest artist Hillel Kogan in his GAGA/People Workshop in the Dance Studio of Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts. Gaga dance offers students a unique creative framework to connect with their bodies; the style fosters body awareness and encourages the experiential joy of movement. Reservations are recommended, as space is limited.

Anat Grigorio and Hillel Kogan participate in "Creativity Conversation: The Political Body" on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m., also in the Dance Studio. They offer their insights into the process of creating political works within the strident discourse in Israel. This event is free and open to the public.

The festival concludes Oct. 29 with a screening of Tomer Heymann’s “Mr. Gaga,” a film chronicling the development and artistic vision of Ohad Naharin, world-renowned choreographer and artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company. Held in White Hall Room 208, the event is free and open to the public.

More information can be found online at arts.emory.edu/exposed. Tickets are available from the Arts at Emory Box Office in the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts, online, or by phone at 404-727-5050.
