A new emergency assistance option is available for students who find themselves short of resources to buy food during this week's spring break. The initiative was launched by the Emory Student Government Association in conjunction with the Office of Student Success Programs and Services in Emory Campus Life and the nonprofit organization, Bread Coffeehouse.

A limited number of free box lunches will be available March 7-12 to students needing food during spring break and displaying Emory identification cards. Hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Bread Coffeehouse, located at 1227 Clifton Road at the intersection of North Decatur Road, will distribute the meals.

“The spring break box lunch program is part of an expanded effort by Emory Campus Life to ensure that food needs are met for all of our students,” says Adrienne Slaughter, director of the Office of Student Success.

Another initiative is Food Pantry, sponsored by Student Success, Emory Dining and Bon Appétit. Located at Bread Coffeehouse, Food Pantry provides fresh fruits and vegetables, canned goods and hygiene products for Emory students who need assistance.

Emory students may contact the Office of Student Success during spring break and any other time of the school year to access a range of support for academic, medical, financial and social challenges.

The office’s Student Intervention Services (SIS) Team is available 24/7 at or 404-430-1120. Students in emergency situations and in need of immediate help should contact the Emory Police Department at 404-727-6111 or local police at 911.

SGA conceived the spring break lunch program and shares program costs with Emory Campus Life.
