School of Nursing appoints associate dean of community and clinical partnerships

Susan Shapiro, RN, PhD, FAAN has been appointed associate dean for community and clinical partnerships at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University. 

Effective Sept. 1, 2014, Shapiro began oversight of strategic collaborations with clinical agencies, community-based health resources, health systems and other academic institutions. In addition she will develop continuing education and non-degree certificate programs to enhance professional development opportunities for working adults.

"Dr. Shapiro’s foresight, leadership and highly notable expertise give me the utmost confidence in her ability to strategically build on the School of Nursing’s past accomplishments while continuing our upward trajectory in academic service, collaborations and continuing education," says Linda McCauley. "I am confident that she will continue to bridge relationships and implement effective strategies in her new position."

Since joining Emory in 2010, Shapiro has launched several academic and clinical partnerships for the School of Nursing through her work with Emory Healthcare, Georgia Institute of Technology and others. She is also currently the corporate director for nursing research at Emory Healthcare and has been instrumental in leading efforts to develop the capacity of nurses at Emory Healthcare to engage in clinical research that results in improved outcomes.
