Beginning Monday, Aug. 4, Eagle Row will not be accessible to cars traveling into campus via Clifton Road, and will be closed in the westbound direction into campus between Clifton Road and Peavine Creek Drive (near the Emory baseball fields and Peavine Parking Deck). Major construction will replace the asphalt and base to restore the road to full function.
Construction is scheduled to be completed before Aug. 20 and will occur approximately from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Traffic flow will shift back to two-way traffic after construction each night and on Sundays.
Traffic will be directed by police to prevent any westbound vehicles from turning onto Eagle Row into campus, and minimize backups at the Clifton Road and Eagle Row intersection. Bike lanes will be closed, so bicycle riders will also need to find an alternate route into campus.
Access into campus may occur via Fishburne and Dowman drives, and/or Oxford/Eagle Row. Access out of campus via Eagle Road in the eastbound direction will remain open for traffic; however, delays are expected during construction as traffic will be routed on alternating lanes. One lane will always remain open.
During construction, the following areas may be accessed from Eagle Row traveling east via the Oxford Road, Fishburne or Dowman drive entrances into campus:
- Peavine Parking Deck
- Means Drive
- WHSCAB Parking Lot via Means Drive
- Longstreet Parking Dock
- Asbury Circle
- Depot Parking Lot
- Water Tower Place
FM Drive will be closed at Eagle Row and will accommodate two-way traffic during this project beginning Friday morning, Aug. 1. The Sorority Parking Lot will be closed to personal vehicles and will be reserved for FM vehicles only.
The D and Loop shuttle routes will not change during construction. The D Express route will operate as the D route during the lane closure. Shuttles may be delayed.
Campus Services officials asked those who use Eagle Row to plan for traffic delays and avoid the area if possible. They acknowledged having traffic flow in one direction will be inconvenient, but said it is preferable to having two-way traffic alternating in just one lane of Eagle Row, which could cause traffic to back up onto Clifton Road and Haygood Road and lead to dangerous gridlock.
