Annual exhibition features students as curators

This spring marks the return of the Visual Arts Department Annual Student Art Exhibition. The exhibition will open on Thursday, April 24 with a reception held from 5-7 p.m. The student projects will continue to be on exhibit through May12.

During this time the art history/ visual arts joint majors become the curators of the department's contemporary gallery space where they will present their senior theses and projects.

The seniors will present their work, which has been critiqued and reworked throughout the semester. The rest of the Visual Arts building will serve as a showcase for drawings, paintings, photography and sculpture from other students of the department.

"This year the students explored a variety of art practices, including installation, land art, digital painting, comics, sculpture, acrylic painting, and photography," says Sarah Emerson,  Visual Arts faculty member who teaches drawing and painting.

"On view together, the students truly exemplify the creative energy and discipline of the Visual Arts Department."
