New works debut, virtuosos perform at 2014-2015 Candler Concert Series

German virtuoso violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter will perform at Emory on Nov. 15 as part of the Flora Glenn Candler Concert Series.

Premieres of new musical works will be a major feature of the 2014-2015 Candler Concert Series, which will bring virtuoso performers and Grammy Award winners.

All performances are at in the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

The Brentano String Quartet and Vijay Iyer will debut a new quintet written by Iyer titled "Time, Place, Action" on Oct. 10.

A return visit by composer and violinist Daniel Roumain, who was a resident artist and performer during the 2012-2013 season, will include the premiere of a new work commissioned by Emory as part of the Creation Stories Project.  Roumain will also premiere a new work inspired by his Haitian-American heritage.

Emory ensembles throughout the season will also present several world premieres.

The series also features performances by pianist Garrick Ohlsson on Sept. 26, virtuoso violinist Anne Sophie Mutter on Nov. 15 and the Grammy Award winning Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra on Feb. 7, 2015.

Mutter will be on an international tour with "Mutter’s Virtuosi" the ensemble of 14 current and former scholarship students of the Anne Sophie Mutter Foundation.

  • Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Feb. 5-7, 2015, revisiting classic musical selections.
  • Sharon Isbin, guitar & Isabel Leonard, mezzo, April 4, 2015, pairing classical guitar and a rising opera star.
  • The Tallis Scholars, April 19, 2015, performing a cappella Renaissance music.
