Financial workshops offer tax, investing advice

The Emory WorkLife Resource Center offers two free workshops on personal financial planning.  These hour-long seminars will help faculty and staff become more confident in building investments and maximizing benefits from their income taxes.

“Essentials of Personal Income Tax,” to be held Friday, Feb. 21 in Harland Cinema in the Dobbs University Center, will introduce the tools needed to take advantage of deductions and credits on tax returns to reduce tax liability.  Barry H. Franklin, CPA, from the Foundation for Personal Finance Education, will facilitate this workshop.

On Friday, March 28, a workshop on “Confident Investing in Any Market” will be held in Room 1.432 at 1599 Clifton Rd.  Galen Mayo of Fidelity will provide help for building an investment mix, evaluating investment options and monitoring a portfolio in order to moderate risk.  He will also discuss ways to identify investments that may help reduce taxes.

Attend these sessions if you have questions about income taxes or are working on an investment strategy; both will be held from noon- 1 p.m. While both workshops have reached maximum enrollment, those interested in attending can sign up for the wait list.
