Emory University kicks off the school year Saturday, Aug. 24, with move-in day for residence halls and the start of freshman orientation. Classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 28 for all students.

The Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the university’s primary undergraduate division, welcomes about 1,375 first-year students and their families to campus this weekend. The first-year class comes to Emory from every region of the nation and around the world, and is defined by the students' diverse backgrounds and interests, impressive academic achievements and a track record of strong engagement with their home communities.

Highlights of Emory’s opening weekend activities on Saturday, Aug. 25 include:
• Emory Class of 2017 photo, 6:30 p.m. The entire Class of 2017 will gather for the annual class photo. Emory Quadrangle. (Here’s a time-lapse video of last year’s photo.)
• Residence Hall Check-In, 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
First-year students will be moving in to their residence halls Saturday. Few & Evans Hall (4 Eagle Row), Hamilton Holmes Hall (623 Pierce Promenade), and Longstreet-Means Hall (646 Means Drive) are some of Emory's newest dorms and are accessible on campus via Clifton Road and Eagle Row.
• Various Times: How to Parent a College Student
Emory psychology professor Marshall Duke has helped ease the separation process for parents and their newly minted college students for nearly 30 years with a tremendously popular Emory orientation seminar on “Parenting a College Student: What To Expect.” He speaks to parents Saturday at 1:45 p.m. and 3 p.m. in White Hall, Room 208, Dowman Drive, Emory.
