People who've been diagnosed with blood cancers like leukemia and multiple myeloma, whether in Atlanta or elsewhere in Georgia or other states, can rely on Winship Cancer Institute to provide expert care. Winship is a designated Community Resource Center for the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) and as such is the go-to institution for referring doctors and patients dealing with blood cancers.
As explained by Dr. H. Jean Khoury, the R. Randall Rollins Chair of Oncology at Emory Univ. School of Medicine, and director of the Division of Hematology at Winship Cancer Institute, Winship's multi-disciplinary, collaborative team approach brings together the expertise of hematology doctors, nurse navigators and staff, as well as experts in sub-specialties such as pathology, to develop an individualized care plan for every patient. Winship works closely with referring physicians to coordinate all aspects of a patient's care.
Winship's role in handling referrals from doctors and patients outside Atlanta, in smaller cities and rural areas, is part of the ACCC’s Improving Quality Care in Small-Population Cancers project.
