The annual event is one of the signature programs of the Emory Alumni Association and has increased its volunteer participation each year since its creation in 2003.
The Emory Alumni Association partnered with Volunteer Emory in 2006, increasing the number of undergraduate and graduate student participants. The WorkLife Resource Center hopes to increase the number of faculty and staff participants by promoting the event directly to the faculty, and staff at Emory, and combining it as an opportunity for them to invite their families to join them and participate in National Family Volunteer Day, which is celebrated in November as well.
Through Emory Cares, alumni chapters across the country and around the world coordinate and lead a wide range of service projects that benefit their local communities. Emory Cares is one of the University's most widely recognized means of furthering its mission of serving humanity.
A wide range of projects are available for Emory Cares volunteers, including: Send a Smile, the NAMES Project (AIDS Memorial Quilt), Volunteer! Decatur, outdoor projects in public parks and recreation areas, reading to the elderly, and many more.
