Hula Hooping in the Hospital Halls

During the weeks of the XXX Summer Olympic Games, staff at Emory University Hospital are competing in the BMT (Blood Marrow Transplant) Olympics. Emory's BMT unit is a place where many patients much spend weeks and sometimes months as they undergo bone marrow transplant, treatment for various cancers and recovery. Every day staff, and sometimes patient family members and patients, compete in light-hearted competitions, like a hula hoop contest, bedpan shuffleboard and wheelchair races. According to Dr. Amelia Langston, the idea behind the event is to afford patient, families and staff, who spend so much time in the BMT unit, some fun and laughs during the long days in the hospital.
