Emory loses a community member in cycling accident

Paul Taylor, a physician's assistant in the Department of Pediatrics in Emory's School of Medicine, was cycling to work Monday, April 30, on North Decatur Road near Willivee Drive when he was fatally struck by a vehicle.

A memorial service for Taylor is planned for Thursday, May 3, at 7 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

Jamie Smith of Bike Emory said he'd been contacted by a number of cyclists and other members of the Emory community who "have expressed sadness and concern about the loss of life due to this accident, and have asked what we—as individuals and as Emory—can do to improve safety on our local roadways."

He cited efforts by Bike Emory and the University to work with county and government officials to improve roadway plans for increased cyclist and pedestrian safety.

Bike Emory is planning future events and opportunities to address safety, Smith said.
