Campus fitness centers are set to reopen July 1

Emory employees will once again have access to campus athletic facilities beginning July 1, with certain restrictions and limitations in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all patrons.

Beginning July 1, Emory employees will once again have access to all Atlanta campus athletic facilities: the Woodruff PE Center (WPEC), Student Activity and Academic Center (SAAC) and Blomeyer Health Fitness Center. Membership is required and all facilities will have certain restrictions and limitations in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all patrons.

Employees who work at Oxford College can also use their weight room and gym.

“We’re very excited to begin welcoming employees back this summer,” says Walter Kolis, associate director of recreation and athletic facilities. “For many employees, our facilities are more than just a gym — they help create the vibrant and thriving in-person community that makes Emory special.”

Each facility has worked in conjunction with Emory’s Environmental Health and Safety Office to develop a multi-faceted approach to reopening in order to keep everyone safe. All three facilities will have reduced hours this summer and appointments may be necessary for use of certain programs or areas.

“Now more than ever, physical activity is a critical component for managing stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle as many employees begin returning to work on campus,” says Jim Jadallah, senior wellness manager for Healthy Emory. “We’ve received feedback from our members that they are prepared to return to the Blomeyer as long as safety precautions are in place.”

Anthony Woods, manager of the Blomeyer Health Fitness Center, looks forward to seeing his members again in person. “After 16 months of working out from home, many of our members are ready to return to the gym and begin using the facility. Initially, reservations will be required to use the equipment at Blomeyer. As restrictions lift and policies are updated, we will adjust accordingly.”

As an added bonus, employees who purchase a membership in July for the WPEC, SAAC or Blomeyer will receive the month of July for free at that facility.
