Virtual Community Hub helps keep students connected

While classes and activities have moved to a virtual format in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Emory Virtual Community Hub allows students to stay connected with old friends, make new ones and take care of themselves and each other during this trying time.

During this time of virtual learning, the newly-launched Emory Virtual Community Hub offers a connection point while students continue to adjust to new circumstances. The site pulls together virtual ways that students can connect with old friends, make new friends and take care of themselves and others.

They can admire (or submit) digital art works, share their Spotify playlists and join in group meditation. Student organizations and departments and units have been quick to establish virtual opportunities to connect even as students, faculty and staff have adjusted to studying and working remotely.

Students can use the hub to learn about the many campus events and activities being hosted online, ranging from Netflix watch parties and fitness challenges to book club discussions and intramural sports leagues on PlayStation or XBOX. The events are categorized to make finding programs for specific interests easier: spiritual, intellectual, physical and play.

The hub even includes a virtual time capsule of sorts. Students can write a “Note to Self” reflecting on this unprecedented time in history. Notes can be about anything – adjusting to the virtual learning environment, staying connected with family and friends during social distancing or any other notable facet of experiencing quarantine. The notes will be emailed back to students on April 30, 2021, giving them a chance to reflect on their experience when life is a bit more normal.

Faculty and staff can help make the hub a robust resource by sharing the site with students and by submitting virtual programs to include on the site. Simply complete the online form for consideration.
